Multi-talented comedian KRISTINA WONG announces the WORLD PREMIERE of her new show “THE WONG STREET JOURNAL” WEDNESDAY JUNE 17 – SUNDAY JUNE 21 at Z BELOW. How did a not-so-white-savior from San Francisco become a Northern Uganda hip hop legend? Watch this irreverent travelogue, one you’d never see on PBS, play out in an all-felt version of the New York Stock Exchange sewed by Wong herself.
Part plushy TED lecture, part amateur hip-hop extravaganza, and part travelogue, The Wong Street Journal breaks down the complexities of global poverty, privilege and economic theory using uneasy-to-read charts, live hashtag wars, and riveting slideshows from post-conflict Northern Uganda. Wong tells the story of how she, as a not-so-white savior, became a hip-hop star in Northern Uganda.
San Francisco native Kristina Wong has been a guest on “Totally Biased with W. Kamau Bell,” Al Jazeera’s “The Stream” and Huffington Post Live. She has also been a commentator for American Public Media’s Marketplace, PBS, Jezebel, xoJane, Playgirl Magazine and featured in The New York Times “Off Color” series. Kristina spent a month in Northern Uganda researching the show and recording a rap album called “Mzungu Price” with local rappers.
