COMEDY CENTRAL ORDERS KURT BRAUNOHLER LATE NIGHT TALK SHOW PILOT

KURT HALF HOUR

Just announced!  Comedy Central ordered the pilot for a late night talk show “Gettin’ Some Strange with Kurt Braunohler” featuring the comedian covering the strangest stories of the day, revealing just how beautifully insane our world actually is.

In even more Kurt Braunohler news… his Comedy Central Half Hour recently aired, he just made another appearance as guest on @midnight, was featured narrator on this week’s Drunk History, he just wrapped filming on a feature film called  “B-Roll” in which he plays the lead AND his fantastic “Roustabout” webseries, which was shot along his six day jet ski adventure from Chicago to New Orleans, will launch this Fall on Comedy Central online.

In the meantime, you can find Kurt on stage every Monday night at The Virgil in LA as co-host of the hit comedy variety show “Hot Tub” and watch for new eps of his popular K Ohle podcast on Nerdist Network.

AFTERNOONS (IRVING) ANNOUNCE LP, PREMIERE NEW “SAY YES” TRACK AT MUSICTIMES

Afternoons-SayYes-artworkbyShepardFairey

LA-based six piece AFTERNOONS announce the release of their long-awaited full length ‘SAY YES’ out October 21 on Eenie Meenie Records with album art by Shepard Fairey.  Afternoons are led by Brian Canning and Steven Scott from the band Irving who were part of the era-defining Ship Collective in the mid-2000s, along with Silverson Pickups and Earlimart, and played with Arcade Fire, Franz Ferdinand, Broken Social Scene, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Of Montreal and many, many others. While Irving never officially broke up, Canning and Scott started Afternoons and bandmate Alex Church formed Seawolf.  With only rough demos to their name, Afternoons achieved what many bands dream of and landed a major label deal and touted as the next big indie band, followed by what every band dreads, questionable label guidance, a name change (Shadow Shadow Shade) and a fantastic album that flew unsupported and criminally overlooked.

Fast forward to the now as the band returns as Afternoons releasing the songs they intended all along.  Soncically expansive yet lyrically concise, ‘Say Yes’ includes some of those early Afternoon demos which gained the band fans, radioplay, local press and that label deal, now reimagined by the band and remixed by Aaron Espinoza (The Ship, Earlimart).  Starry-eyed at times, sardonic at others, and ever and always a Mass Spectacle, just as Afternoons wanted all along.

MusicTimes has the exclusive premiere of anthemic title track “Say Yes.”   Here it here: http://bit.ly/1q6yjPO

‘Say Yes’ will be available on cd and double vinyl + free MP3 download card.  Pre-order is available with a discount through the October 21 release date.

DANIEL LANOIS ANNOUNCES UPRISE.FM STREAMING SERVICE: RARE RECORDINGS ON DEMAND

Uprise.fm logo
Seminal Artist/Producer Daniel Lanois Announces Uprise.FM –
a Music Streaming Service Centered Around the Artist Community

UPRISE.FM Will Offer Unique and Rare Recordings On Demand.

Daniel Lanois, one of the world’s most influential music producers, today announced his participation in a new on the demand music streaming service and artist community called Uprise.FM, set to launch in 2015.

Uprise.FM will offer a unique music experience, featuring the rare, unique and live recordings owned by artists that aren’t available on commercial streaming sites.
Lanois, a 10-time Grammy winning producer of classic recordings from artists including U2, Bob Dylan and Peter Gabriel, sees Uprise.FM as an opportunity for artists to get further compensated for their work, and for fans to discover new recordings and performances not found on commercial studio releases. Uprise.FM will also function as an artist hub, with artist services such as artist classifieds and free storage of live and unique tracks.

“It’s time for a streaming service that is centred around and driven by the artist community directly,” said Lanois. “Artists are prolific beyond a new recording every two years. They perform, tour, record, and collaborate constantly. Uprise.fm will not only make these rare and unique recordings available, we will ensure that the artists are fairly compensated for this work.” –Daniel Lanois

Lanois will be both the Creative Director and Chief Music Curator of Uprise.fm.

Uprise.FM was founded by Montreal businessman and consummate music fan Gary Silverman.  “As a fan, I was constantly searching music sites to find rare material from the artists I follow. I began to realize that there was so much more music out there that fans want to listen to, beyond what you hear on commercial recordings and streaming sites.  I wanted to create a site where music lovers could find the live and unique recordings they’re searching for, while compensating these great artists for their amazing music that would otherwise be hidden in vaults or on hard drives or uploaded on free sites.”

Although Uprise.FM won’t be officially launched until 2015, content curation has already begun through a music opportunity that will be judged by music critics and experts, including Lanois himself. Liveinyourcity.com is offering a $10,000 grand prize for the best live/studio take recording, as well as several other prizes. The submission period for the first contest will close on August 31st, 2014.

Brooklyn freakrockers NEW BEARD return with ‘MY PEOPLE ARE AROUND’, seven hot new tracks showcasing the band’s massive, stripped down live sound which you can listen to in its entirety right now on their website.  The EP follows the band’s ‘New Beard City’ LP which was met with much excitement, gained a new following for the band, and was lovingly referred to as what KISS might sound like if they were a half brass band.

Recorded live over the course of 2 days, ‘My People Are Around’ is nearly unclassifiable prog/psych rock with vocals by frontman Ben Wigler (Arizona) who can get real high, basslines by tuba player Tuba Joe Exley,  beats by freakshow drummer Tony Waldman and surf-metal guitarist Mike Krenner.  ‘My People Are Around’ is raw, unfiltered New Beard in full on-rock mode; effortless and energetic.
