SF SKETCHFEST, the San Francisco Comedy Festival, announces the postponement of its 20th annual comedy festival. Festival founders/co-producers Cole Stratton, David Owen, and Janet Varney said, “This past January we feel fortunate that we were able to present our 19th annual festival before the Covid-19 pandemic hit. If this were a normal year, we would currently be in the process of booking and planning our big 20th annual festival for January 2021. But because of so many unknown factors, it may be awhile before we can all go back to safely attending live events. And so we have had to accept that right now, we don't see a path forward for presenting a live, in-person festival in January, but we WILL be back!”

Bringing people together to laugh and celebrate comedy is what SF Sketchfest does best. Until it is safe for audiences to attend events in-person, festival producers are planning a series of special virtual events and live streams to keep you entertained.

First up for SF Sketchfest’s special programming is the Plan 9 From Outer Space LIVE VIRTUAL EVENT on Thursday, October 29th at 6:00 pm PST. Comedian, television writer and Ed Wood superfan Dana Gould (“The Simpsons,” “Stan Against Evil”) brings a special adaptation of the screenplay of Wood’s classic film “Plan 9 From Outer Space” to the virtual SF Sketchfest stage incorporating miniature visual effects, a stacked cast of comedians (including Maria Bamford, Bobcat Goldthwait, David Koechner, Jonah Ray, Paul F. Tompkins, Janet Varney, Baron Vaughn, and more to be announced) and musical accompaniment by Eban Schletter. Wry stage directions and narration help pay tribute to the film’s, shall we say, quirkier qualities. Originally titled “Grave Robbers from Outer Space,” Wood’s 1959 science-fiction “masterpiece” follows aliens who utilize a plan to re-animate earth’s dead in order to stop the building of a doomsday weapon. Don’t miss this “so-bad it’s good” staple from the B-movie canon like you’ve never seen it before, recreated for your viewing pleasure by a bunch of people who ought to know better.

Tickets are $10. ON SALE NOW at sfsketchfest.com

Kamau Bell, Jane Lynch, Dick Cavett, Peter Bogdanovich, Phoebe Robinson, Alan Arkin, cast reunions of “Best in Show,” “Animal House,” “Office Space,” “Better Things,” and many more.
